Understanding Egyptian Hieroglyphics
The study of Hieroglyphics has been an ongoing fascination by Egyptologists for literally centuries. To this day, a positive interpretation of the hundreds of symbols discovered cannot be ascertained. The discovery of the Rosetta stone in 1799 provided an incredible breakthrough, however there continues to be conflicting opinions on the literal translation of both the Phonetic and Ideographic (pictorial) symbols. As such, the interpretation provided in the accompanying manuals represent an assembly of the most popular transcriptions of Sir Alan Gardiner and E.A. Wallis Budge. The Hieroglyphics found on the Egyptian tombs, walls and paintings vary in size and decoration and it can be said that generally, a sign, for example the horned viper will always represent the letter "f" regardless of its decorative features. The ornamentation of the signs in this series were created for visual appeal, while retaining the relative form and structure of the signs. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
